Barnett Ratcliffe Partnership Ltd. was founded in 1990 by Directors Ray Barnett and Martin Ratcliffe. As Ray Barnett retired in 2013, Stuart Lymer was then appointed as a director. Martin and Stuart have worked together now for over 20 years and continue to drive the company forward, working with a diverse client base.
With more than two decades of experience behind us, we have developed a strong reputation for delivering a high quality service across a wide range of architectural design sectors including the residential sector, leisure, commercial and healthcare. Passionate about what we do and long term members of the the Royal Institute of British Architects, we welcome projects of all sizes, no matter how complex the project may be.

By being involved from the inception of a project and working closely with clients through to its completion, we are able to ensure that client needs are not only met but that they are constantly reviewed and adapted as the project evolves.
We understand that our role is to assist in the delivery of your project. Whilst we are passionate about design and we have the skill and experience to reinforce our ideas and concepts, we understand that the buildings remain the possession of the client and ultimately so does the end design.
Since day one, we have taken pride in being a respected practice that will always offer our skills, knowledge and experience but which will never enforce our personal views.
As such all designs that we undertake remain inherently flexible. To help maintain flexibility in terms of the design we will:
- Listen to the client
- Evaluate with sketches and drawings (through all design stages)
- Discuss options and concerns
- Review comments and feedback
In support of this we ensure that information is regularly provided by the design team to enable the client to monitor costs, allowing them identify potential risk items before they impact on the project.
During the construction process, contract instructions or variations are often unavoidable. If this does occur we will ensure that the design team provide sufficient information for the client to obtain accurate estimates of the impact on cost and programme so that options may be considered before any necessary works are completed.

Under a traditionally procured contract we remain the client’s architect, employed by them we have a duty of care to keep their best interests at heart. Our depth of experience in the construction industry and our diverse project range means that we have established a sound knowledge of how main contractors operate.
This experience is born out of long-standing relationships which help us to advise clients on the suitability of a contractor to suit their project needs. We can also use our professional experience and skills during the selection process to provide expert advice on tender prices to assure the client of the best prices through commercially tested means.
